About 150 people were part of the milestone closing the program ‘Futboleras in Action’ which had the objective to enable public spaces that encourage the participation of girls and women in sport in Monterrey.

1 in 4 women carry out physical activity, and only 26% of women with 12 or more years involved in the realization of sports or physical exercise, according to the National Survey on Use of Time. A startling picture, which, Under Armour, Innovasport and Futbol Mas Foundation saw an opportunity to promote the participation of girls and women in sport. Thus was born the program ‘Futboleras in Action’.

The program consisted of 4 stages: Formation of Leaders, Challenges, Community, Transforming the Court and the Final Tournament. Each of these phases was intended to generate a story where the participants of the program, which enrolled free of charge, to be beneficiaries, could be linked with and learn life skills through the methodology of Sport for Development promoted by Futbol Mas Foundation in 15 states of Mexico and 11 countries in the world.

The Training of Leaders are developed over a month and a half through seven sessions are virtual and face-to-face, where Futbol Mas professionals conveyed themes of gender and sport-directed teams to women who enrolled in the program, both their players and their coaches/is. On the other hand, the Challenges Community involved in activities that promote social-emotional skills through tasks that the team of tutors and mentors assigned to the capitanas to what was learned in the sessions, to be transferred to all the players of their teams respectively.

One of the stages that are most relevant and significant, especially for the community that lives around the court The Well of San Pedro 400, was that of Transforming the Pitch. For this phase, we counted with the participation of METRO21, an art gallery urban specializing in the development of cultural projects in the public space. The project was challenging and it was a process of co-design involving children between the ages of 6 to 17 years of age who regularly address the space in the workshops sociodeportivos that Futbol Mas imparts in the community.

Some of the themes that emerged to be reflected on the pitch were the gender equality, the importance of the sport and the union. In addition, they worked on elements territorial characteristic of the place. The uprising of information, was carried out through workshops and sessions that METRO21 performed in parallel to the painting of the court, which was also developed in conjunction with the artists and the people of the community.

Finally, the program ended with a tournament held in the remodeled pitch of The Well with the 10 teams and almost 110 players who enrolled in the program ‘Futboleras in Action’. Beyond the competition, the tournament is focused on the relationship with space and in which the participants get to know each other and build the bonds with the rest of the equipment.

Andrea Villanueva, social director of Futbol Mas in Mexico, welcomed the results of the instance: “it was a great challenge, which was possible thanks to the contribution of Under Armour and Innovasport, whose alliance he trusted the process that we developed and that met in a beautiful tournament that took hundreds of girls playing safe in a space remodeled. Thank you also to METRO21, whose contribution to the design process and engagement with the environment allows us to make visible, through this beautiful new pitch, the strength of a community which is organized”.
