Fútbol Más is born
In the middle of 2007 three young Chilean professionals, Rodrigo Abarzúa, Víctor Gutiérrez and Guillermo Rolando came together to project an idea that their life stories had in common. The passion for sport and the vision of a society where community and equality can be important pillars. This encounter and the combination of the different work backgrounds led to the birth of Fútbol Más. In September of 2007 it was constituted as a sports club and in the last quarter of the same year, Antonio Del Favero and Juan Araya joined. The whole team designed the first socio-sport methodology of the project, thus creating the Green Card, a tool that is at the base of the foundation's programs. In March 2008, the operation began with five neighborhoods in the Metropolitan Region and with a coverage of 400 children.
Fútbol Más in the regions
After a year of programs and many learnings, the foundation intended to decentralize the operation and bring its programs and methodologies to the different regions of the country. In 2009 Fútbol Más Antofagasta was opened, working in six neighborhoods of the city with around 500 children. The work in the regions had a great social and media impact. Further Tarapacá and Maule, then Atacama, were opened in 2010, and at the end of 2012, the Bíobio region began its operations. In 2015, programs started in the O'Higgins region.
Fútbol Más in Latin America and the world
The dream of a continent more united through children and happier communities was always the goal of Fútbol Más. This is how the project opened in 2012 with the help of the Antonio Valencia Foundation in four neighborhoods of Guayaquil, Ecuador and giving way to the Latin American dream of Fútbol Más. Later, the opening of programs and offices in Haiti and Peru took place. In 2017 a fifth country was added to the program in the sector of Los Bañados, in Asunción, Paraguay. That same year borders were crossed again, now continental, with the arrival of Fútbol Más in two communities of Nairobi, Kenya, in Africa.
Fútbol Más lifts the Green Card
The Green Card was used for the first time in the match Chile-Ecuador, during the Copa América Chile 2015 and in all the following games in which Chile participated during this tournament. The Green Card of Fútbol Más is one of the tools used by the foundation in its classes and seeks to encourage the positive aspects of teamwork through rewarding. This marked a milestone for the stadium area of the foundation, using this symbol as a tool to call the respect during the intonation of the hymns in the Copa América. In October 2016, the first activation of the Green Card outside of Chile was carried out at the Atahualpa Stadium in Quito, Ecuador.
Fútbol Más creates the Circle of Honor
In July 2016, during the match between Universidad Católica and Cobresal at the first gameday of the league a significant initiative was introduced to Chilean soccer. The Circle of Honor is an act that takes place after the end of the game, and where the players of both teams and the referees gather together in the center of the court. This year, this initiative was consolidated into a mandatory protocol for the youth categories of national football, in addition to being used in women's football and in the second league.
