The Youth Leaders continue their journey in the Youth Leadership Academy
In the early hours of Saturday 28th of July, Futbol Mas youth leaders from Mathare and Kibera all made way to Valley Arcade, a business park in Lavington area in Nairobi for a module of the youth leadership academy. This was the second module of the leadership training with the aim of molding them to be future leaders by teaching them social football coaching tips, how to prepare a Futbol Mas session, timing skills, and good connection with the children.
The event registered a full attendance from all youth leaders who were happy to be part of the second module of the futbol mas youth leadership academy. The session started with the members connecting with each other, then they were divided into five groups where they engaged in designing two games.
According to Kevin Irungu, a youth leader from Mathare, the youth leadership academy has been of great help to him as it has taught him how to be responsible, to have self-esteem, and to take care of the environment around him. He really appreciates the program as it helps him nurture good values in the children of his community. “The program has taught me to take care of my community and teaching values to children I have to ensure I am a good role model to them”.
The session was made successful by the attendance of Mr Sagar Chavda and his team from restaurant Gyros 2 Go, who showed their generosity by having saved up some financial support and donating balls that will be used by students from both Mathare and Kibera. The cheque that he offered will be of great help in facilitating the continuity of the program.
Mr Sagar who is the owner of Gyros 2 Go, a restaurant at Valley Arcade, also offered lunch to the whole team which was present at the second module of the futbol mas leadership academy. The whole team was grateful to him and with his acts the youth leaders offered him a green card to appreciate his gesture. Besides that he also talked to the youth leaders about employability and entrepreneurship from his own experience.
We are all looking forward to the next youth leadership academy module and we welcome anyone who would want to support the program and also encourage more youths from the communities where we work to join the program.
