REPORT ON THE STREET FOOTBALL WORLD

The Street Football World East Africa Regional Conference 2018 was held in Nairobi, Kenya at the Mathare Youth Sports Association headquarters. The street football world was a great seminar for us youth leaders who attended the event. It was a milestone activity for us. It’s one of the highlights that have marked our stay with Futbol Más. The event was graced by people from all walks of life with sports related commitment to their respective communities or places of work.
For us, it was more than the seminar, it was another platform not only to better our lives but also improve our efforts as youth leaders for the organization. Among many good things that came up with the seminar was the fact we mingled and shared great ideas with the people present. Not to mention we also spoke with our youth leader from Kibera on different issues. In fact amongst other many things is that we shared ideas not only to keep attending the session but how we can bring more youth leaders on board and make them stay.
The theme of the session we attended was about giving youths a voice. This was the best part as we all aired issues on how youths in different communities would be given chances to stand in points of decision-making and be heard. It’s a way of getting us to be useful and involve us in their daily community routines.
The amazing part was giving youths a platform to discouver themselves. We all agreed that many youths get to social ills because they are not aware of their potential. If skills would have been spotted earlier and nurtured, the ever increasing number of youths in crime, drugs and substance abuse, sexual immorality would be unheard of. It is for this reason that youths in the afternoon session urged the organizations present to set a place for youth self-discovery and mentorship. To help youths realize that there is another chance in life besides academic excellence.
Being in the panel of youth leaders, brought me to another height altogether. My self esteem was highly boosted and speaking in front of the panel moderator and the audience, receiving and answering questions together with Macrina from MYSA and Anthony from TYSA was so fulfilling. I felt very great that I could be before such a multitude and answer questions comfortably. This however would have been hard for me if it was not for the moral support I got from Richard and Elizabeth the other youth leaders from Mathare.
All the youths available for the seminar were happy and all advocated that another activity of the same be organized within the localities.
