Living Fútbol Más League Kenya 2018
One will be forgiven for thinking children in the disadvantaged communities live in challenging poverty and extreme adversity. In reality they are full of happiness, energy, commitment and unity. This was showcased at the Fútbol Más League that took place on 21st of july 2018.
The event which was held at Undugu Grounds in Kibera was graced by the community and other invited guests who came to support students from St Martins school in Kibera and Destiny Valley view and abundant life schools from Mathare.
Kibera which is a nubian word meaning forest or jungle hosted the much anticipated league. The children from Mathare were quite pleased with the warm welcome given to them by the ones from Kibera. They were especially happy with the big entry that was accorded to them by St Martins students who made them feel at home.
The children who were participating in this league for the first time couldn’t shy away form showing their excitement and also thankng their coaches and youth leaders for the good opportunity. “We now know our talents, we can play footbal both boys and girls together and we are more disciplined since its key to maintain your participation in the program.
According to Austin Ajowi who is Mathare, coach and coordinator, he congratulated everyone who took part in the event and the community for their continuous support. he also said their next year’s prospects are to involve more students and to make sure their impact is growing and a better society through footbal is felt. “As an organisation we have made good strides so far and hopefully next year we will involve more students in the program”.
Kibera coach famously known as Gaucho (Elijah Mwandikwa) shared the same sentiments with the community coordinators that the program has been helpful in teaching children good values, life skills and good hygiene that can help one lead a good life. The teachers couldn’t differ as they acknowledge the importance of the program to their students.
In attendance was also the Chile ambassador to Kenya he Hernan Brantes who assured his continuous support to Fútbol Mas Kenya activities to help the community. “This is my fourth time to be in Kibera and i will continue coming since the Government of Chile (Fondo Chile) and my office supports this program”.
The league has once again an opportunity for the communities we work with to show themselves and the futbol mas staff continues to be impressed about their progress in terms of community management and leadership. The journey goes on from here and the monday after the league we already had our next social football sessions with the kids. to the community stakeholders and everyone who came to support the futbol mas leaugue we accord you our appreciation.
