“Fútbol Más” Peru is a finalist of the City Urban Leadership award
Barrios Fútbol Más in north Lime were named finalists of the city Award, by the observatory “Lima Cómo Vamos” as an organization that contributes to improving public space in the city through sports
On May 22, the first edition of the City Award for Urban Leadership was held, in which 36 public, private and civil society organizations applied to carry out actions that contribute to urban development and the construction of just, humane and sustainable cities.
Thanks to the commitment of the young leaders and adults of the neighborhoods of Lima Norte, Nuevo Amanecer and Enrique Milla Ochoa, the Fútbol Más Perú Foundation was chosen as a finalist with the project “Delivering opportunities for development through sports” in the category ” Urban Contribution “, emphasizing with an honorable mention, to guarantee sustainability and replicability with the intervention in the neighborhoods. The category recognizes projects from the private sector, civil society or public-private partnerships that have had impacts in favor of a better city.
Fundación Fútbol Más arrived four years ago in Lima Norte with its sports partner program to work together with the family and community. Since then it has managed to forge community leaderships in young people and self-management capacity in adults. Currently, it is the young leaders of these neighborhoods who have assumed the role of social sports monitors to independently support a protective environment for children.
“It is important that the work done by the neighborhood leaders be made visible and shared with other organizations that work to build a better city for children and young people. Fundación Fútbol Más helps to achieve Sustainable Development Goal number eleven, Sustainable Cities and Communities, by means of the recovery of public spaces, the promotion of social capital for the sustainability of communities and guaranteeing safe, inclusive and resilient public spaces through play and sports.
