Fundación Fútbol Más wins the Beyond Sport awards, the ‘Nobel for sport for development’
Our organization won the first place in the Beyond Sport Global Award 2018 in the category ‘Sustainable Communities’, thanks to the work in neighborhoods, through football and games. This is the first time that an organization born in Chile gets this award.
Wednesday, September 12, 2018 will be marked as a historic day for Chile. From the One World Trade building, located in New York, where the award ceremony of the Beyond Sports Global Awards 2018 took place, it was announced that Fundación Fútbol Más won the highest award in the “Sustainable Cities and Communities” category, which It is related to one of the main Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by the United Nations Organization.
Fútbol Más, with presence in 8 countries around the world, received the first place for its work focused on demonstrating that football is much more than just a sport and that it can be used as an element of social integration. Our organization has more than eleven years working in different regions of Chile and the world and was the only Latin American nominated in this category.
The ceremony was attended by sports celebrities, business leaders and experts in development issues. This year, hundreds of initiatives applied for the awards, and Fútbol Más had already been among the finalists of the 2015 Beyond Sport Global Awards, when it was selected among the four finalists for the category “Sports for inclusion”.
The award consisting of an award of global recognition and a sum of money to continue working in social and community action, is the recognition to achieve through football to articulate neighborhoods and communities, achieving unite the protection of children and youth and empowering adults to create long-term spaces.
These awards are the equivalent of the ‘Nobel for sport for development’ and seek to promote the use of various disciplines to impact on social issues such as discrimination, gender equity, migration, among others.
At the end of the ceremony, from New York, Víctor Gutiérrez, executive director of Fundación Fútbol Más, said: “We believe that the result of this award is the consequence of the work of a whole team. We are convinced that football, games and sports are tools for social transformation. We hope that this award is recognition to all those communities that have opened their doors to work for children and young people; and to all our partners who have trusted in the goal of achieving happier communities and who inspire the world with their example. ”
